Shoe Things | Spring St.

I have always been an avid admirer of the perfect low shoe, sneakers, flats you name it, if it doesn’t elevate my height and force me to walk like a new born gazelle, then I will wear it! So of course you can imagine my immediate joy at purchasing  a pair of unconventional white slip on sneakers from Charles and Keith. Now I know I may sound biased as I own a pretty decent amount of their pieces but, what I love about their shoes are that they set themselves apart from other shoes, in that they do not fit into the mold of standard everyday shoes in terms of what fits the standard. There are also a pair of flats that I can say were very aesthetically pleasing. The flats from their new velvet collection have a pointy toe with a really cool rounded heel, low enough that I can wear it everyday, but dressy enough, where I can wear it out on special occasions as well. Donned with a pair of oversized jeans and a white button down, I share with you how I went from casual with white slip-on’s to slightly dressy with flats with the same outfit. Trust me shoes relly do make the difference.

FASHIONWEEK ESSENTIALS

Whether you’re on the go or just pressed for time, these must have essentials during the fashion month are the way to go! So during NYFW, my social media was flooded with questions on what my go to products/appliances are to survive the jungle that is fashion week, here are some of my picks that helped me get through the week!!

Processed with VSCO with hb2 preset

Sunglasses | SMOKE & MIRRORS  Earrings | RUE GEMBON  Headphone | SUDIO SWEDEN Watch | FJORD TIMEPIECES Oil Absorbing Sheets |CLEAN & CLEAR

My Lo and Sons camera bag was the real MVP during this especially hectic week, besides the fact that it is a camera bag for ladies, it was convenience in bag form, with a removable compartment to place both your camera and other necessities, the simplicity of carrying my camera with the stylish appearance of a handbag.

Next up were my Sudio Sweden Vasa Bla headphones, now when I mention convenience these headphones take the cake. Whenever I take photos my headphones tend to get tangled with my bag or my camera straps making it harder to access my phone, whilst detangling my headphones, but not these ones. The Vasa Bla headphones are wireless headphones that connect with your phone via bluetooth for up to 8 hours of studio quality sound with long battery life, they are extremely light and offers so much freedom when I’m taking photos, not to mention that it also comes with multiple ear sleeve sizes, so you don’t have to worry about your headphones slipping out!

A cool pair of sunglasses where do I even start? The right pair can go a long way , and add that extra “cool” factor to any outfit, of course this is especially beneficial when one is vying for those coveted, street style shots. My shades from Smoke and Mirrors were my token go to sunglasses.

Water is literally your best friend! I cannot express, how important it is to stay hydrated, during the week running from show to show, it is especially imperative that you carry something to small to snack on while traveling in between shows. In a majority of the venues, beverages were provided which put exhaustion to a halt but if you didn’t have the luxury of taking a breather carrying a bottle of water is the way to go!

Keeping track of time is of course the number one priority during the fashion month and what better way to tell time with style, with my silver Fjord timepiece, I am THAT person that tends to veer away from over the top,” loud ” colors when it comes to watches and this one is far from that, it’s that timepiece that goes with almost everything you wear!

Band aids, bobby pins and  a small compact brush go a long way and no they won’t all be used together, but for those of us that choose to wear our highest heels or break in those new pair of loafers you purchased specifically for the fashion month, (I am guilty of this) your band aid, (or band- aids) should and will be a constant companion during these trying times, trust me on this one ! Or just save yourself the trouble and invest in a pair of fast flats!

Google maps will never lead you astray, there will be the chance that many of the shows will be offsite, should you happen to take the subway or need to tell your uber where to go organizing where which show is and when will really help, having a planner to tell you what shows are when are where will alleviate so much unnecessary stress.

How could I forget! PHONE CHARGER! Or a portable one at that, has saved many a blogger/ photographer during the fashion month, granted that many of the venues have charging stations, but it just feels a lot better when you have your phone charging in your hand as opposed to waiting for it to do so. Anything can happen during fashion week and missing those Instagram or Snapchat moments can be disappointing.

Besides these essentials, there are many more that I cannot conjure up at the moment, but as a photographer, having an extra set of memory cards are a plus of course! These and many more are the way to go, so if you have the chance to set out to London, Milan, Seoul, Paris ect. or even right here in New York, for fashion week, these items are perfect!

NYFW F/W 16

February 11th ushered in the first day of New York fashion week, bringing together the greatest minds, influencers and style gurus alike to one of the biggest weeks in fashion. This season I had the chance to go behind the scenes photographing from backstage to the runway, and streetstyle in between, and seeing the magic that is fashion week come to life. From 70’s themed style to eclectic patterns and the classic modern look, this season was definitely one to rival all others, and I am super excited to share my experience with you all. I first off want to give a big thank you to everyone that was apart of this amazing experience, for the designers for sharing their creative genius with all of us and allowing me to get a glimpse of the work that goes into producing a successful show, to my fellow photographers for showing me the ropes and sharing their knowledge, and of course the models who grace the runways and bring the designers’ vision to life. My experiences behind the scenes have molded my perception and created an even deeper appreciation for fashion week. Here are some of my favorite looks that I photographed from all the shows that I was fortunate enough to attend. (All photos taken by me.)

MADISON BOOTH & EVAN SUPPLE | SOUTH STREET SEAPORT

“Ballet : a theatrical art form using dancing, music, and scenery to convey a story, theme, or atmosphere”

I have always appreciated and admired how beautiful and graceful a ballet dancer looked, the poise they project was something I have always wanted to capture on film, the ethereal allure and artistry of a dancer that commands attention was what I wanted to project this week when I photographed dancers Madison Booth and Evan Supple. Both hail from Toronto, Canada where they trained for some number of years at Elite Danceworx in the GTA, The location of the shoot was in the South street seaport area, coincidentally on Halloween, where the challenge was trying to find a good spot for photos whilst navigating the costumed crowds. Both dancers were a joy to photograph bringing their own personality and gravitas to the shoot, The emotion and artistry conveyed during the shoot was reflected in the collection of photographs I am super happy to share with you today!

Valentina Robayo | STREETSTYLE : BLEEKER ST.

This week I had the opportunity to photograph my good friend Valentina Robayo. Valentina has always had an effortless and great sense of style, ranging from eclectic to trendy but always one that was her own. The challenge this week was to capture images that complimented her outfit and personality and to deviate away from the cliched location spots for photographs.  Which is how we found ourselves on Bleeker Street. After having lunch at By. Chloe, which was in the area we decided to just walk around get a feel for the locale and see what worked best. New York City is known for being overrun with taxi’s, and because I love taking risks to get that good shot, it was difficult trying not to get run down by a plethora of vehicles, pedestrians and/or  yellow taxi’s. Several photographs later, we managed to get great photo’s that I’m excited to share with you all today. Check it out! Details on her outfit can be found below.

MODEL BEHAVIOUR

Every photographer loves the chance to film/ photograph a subject that inspires them to WANT to photograph them. As a photographer one of the best things about photographing an individual is the emotion and/or enthusiasm you get from the person being photographed, you start to relish that moment and are even more excited to take photo after photo. Because everyone knows that a photographer can be good, but their subject must be better. In a sense it’s a two way street, the dance of give and take, where the subject gives and the photographer takes. Now enough of my endless blathering, today’s blog post is one I am super excited to share!! I had the amazing opportunity to photograph Korean models, Jihye Park and Ji Young Kwak, after walking the Badgley Mischka show. I absolutely loved shooting them!! They brought so much energy, hitting pose after pose and were by far my favorite models during NYFW to photograph. The two friends have been spotted on multiple streetstyle blogs, and on the runway of multiple shows during that week. Without further ado, I am very excited to share with you all these photographs from that day!
